HOW-TO add real garland to your pendant lights for festive holiday decor
by Kara V.

DECK the halls with boughs of holly, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la. 🎶 I’ve been wanting to do this to my kitchen pendant lights since….well, just since last year but I’m STOKED that I actually did it! But instead of holly, we’re decking the kitchen with REAL cedar garland. Let me show you…

So fun and festive, right?? 🤩

I’ve never bought real garland before but found it at Lowes. It’s also sold at Home Depot, Costco, grocery stores, and other places too, I’m sure. Considering that you get 20 feet of it, I feel like it’s not a bad price!

I used floral wire that I had in the house to hang it, but you could also use large twisty-ties, too, I bet! I pre-cut several about 5-6 inches long so they’d be ready for me to use.

Then I held up the garland to measure how long of a piece I needed, and used our giant “loppers” to cut the garland. I used a heavy-duty scissors for a few pieces, too.

Then, just loop the wire through the chain, twist it around tight, and cut off the excess wire. Easy, peasy!

Note: I didn’t think it looked “full” enough with just one piece of garland, so I actually added two to each pendant and that seemed JUST right.👌☺

This didn’t make a mess at all. 😉🙃 Wanna know a secret, though?? 🙊 I forgot to sanitize the counter before we ate dinner and my feet were all over this island. 😝 Gross, Kara! Sorry, family. 😬

But I think it’s so fun to have a little greenery in the kitchen and it draws your eyes upward and kinda makes the room feel bigger, for some reason? I have a big piece of garland leftover that I’ll add somewhere else in the house, too. I think it’s a big bang for your buck. 😄

FAQ's:

Q. Did the garland shed needles on your food/island?

A. Surprisingly...Not at all! Seriously. I'm kind of shocked. Even after it had been up weeeeell past Christmas, it never dropped needles (unless a ball whizzed past it, of course!) 😂 The take down process was definitely messy, though, as expected. 😜

Q. Does it get dried out?

A. Yes, BUT you can spritz them with a spray-bottle every once in awhile if you feel the need. I only did that once...if at all? I can't remember. Like I said before, they didn't ever "shed," so the dryness didn't bother me.

What do you think? Do you want to attempt this too? Or know someone who has pendant lights like this who may want to try? Let me know if you have any questions.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this process. Tis’ the season! ❤💚

XO!
