The EASIEST DIY Christmas decor for your front porch!
by Kara V.

I can’t take credit for this idea — it was introduced (and given) at a party several years ago. But since it's such a great DIY craft -- one that I do every year -- I have to share it with you!

Here’s how to make a very easy, inexpensive, and beautiful decor item for your front porch, or anywhere, really!

First, grab a simple bucket of any size, like so.👆

If you still have greenery leftover from your REAL tree, then that’s perfect!! We have a fake tree this year, but when I was at Lowes getting greenery for this project , a nice associate happened to tell me about this huge bin of leftover tree scraps and said it’s free to take whatever I want. That’s when this idea popped into my head! I grabbed a bunch of pieces and skipped out of there (not really – that’d be awkward.)😂

The first step would be to fill the bucket with some bigger branches or small logs, if you have them. We happened to have these random logs laying amongst the kids’ toys outside –- husband, I’m lookin at YOU -- what are they doing here?! haha. I hope you didn’t need them, because they’re now part of my decor.😆😁

Then use a loppers or garden trimmer to cut down the greenery. I started with big pieces, but that looked weird. Just get creative and arrange it however you like. I had a small selection of random (fake) snow-covered-branches and berries I had gotten from Michaels a few years back. I’m not going to lie, when I first started arranging, I was thinking to myself, “welp, this looks dumb,” 🤨 but just keep at it until you DO like it. 😍

I brought it out to the front porch and realized it needed a red accent so I put a ribbon around the bucket and purchased some $5 glittery gold balls from the grocery store. 👆🤩 And then I called it good.

Ta-Da! What do you think? I still go back and forth wondering if it looks dumb or not. 🤔🤨 haha. But it adds a nice festive touch to the front porch and I was able to make it with things I had around the house, free greenery, and one $5 item. Not bad, I’d say! 👌

A few other easy holiday touches to add to your front porch:

  • Simple red ribbon to things you already have, like I did to these lanterns
  • A cozy festive throw blanket for a chair or bench — mine is from IKEA
  • Hang a wreath around an outdoor light/lantern
  • Find a fun Christmas sign, lit greenery, and front door wreaths, of course!

The options for front porch decor are endless. Have fun adding holiday cheer — it’s the best time of the year! And yes, I made sure that rhymed. 😉😂

Huge hugs! XO!

Real cedar garland on pendant lights

I’ve never bought real garland before but found it at Lowes. It’s also sold at Home Depot, Costco, grocery stores, and other places too, I’m sure. Considering that you get 20 feet of it, I feel like it’s not a bad price!
