Rug wrinkles. Doesn’t the sound of that just give you the heebie-jeebies!?
We have a large area rug in our bedroom that just wouldn’t. lay. flat. I tried all the tricks — laying heavy things on top, pulling and yanking, heat, moisture, and we even rotated the entire rug (which isn’t easy, since it’s under our bed). We thought it might be caught on something under the bed, which was causing it to buckle, but rotating it didn’t work either. I could have cried about it.
But have no fear…we found a solution! When all else fails, buy Carpet Tape!! Did you know this existed?? I sure didn’t. I knew there was non-slip tape for rugs on hardwood, but I didn’t know you could tape carpet to…carpet!
Side note: I know putting a rug on carpet can be controversial, but I typically don’t mind it, if it’s the right kind of rug. This rug is a pretty substantial one, not flimsy like some, so that’s another reason why I don’t mind it on carpet. But really, I just love rugs under beds, in general, because it adds texture and anchors the furniture to ensure the bed is the **star of the show.**
Just my opinion though.
Anyway, let me show you the miracle stuff I bought here :
It’s pretty self explanatory, but we put several strips down on the problem-area, basically laying it the direction the rug needed to be tugged, like so:
I think we ended up doing six strips of tape. Then, we removed the top layer of paper, but be careful – the tape is REAL sticky, like mouse trap sticky. But don’t worry, no animals or humans were harmed in this project.
Then Cory and I pulled and yanked and pushed down on the rug with all our might and GUESS WHAT! It’s FLAT! Like, not a single wrinkle. It’s amazing! I could do a happy dance, and may have done that.
I also used the tape to secure a rug to a rug pad and I’m sure I’ll use it other places as well. I’m just so glad that Mr. Carpet Tape and I found each other.
Now, go cut up some rugs, or something. How does that saying go?! I just googled it. CUT A RUG!K, bye!
Xo!
